Reflection on Martin Puryear and Kendall Buster

Martin Puryear tries to mention one thing with another without being too direct or obvious. His work is fabulous.  I wanted to make a seat that didn’t look like a traditional seat; I wanted it to be unique. I wanted my chair to be comfortable and different but still look aesthetically pleasing. All of Puryear’s work is also filled with variety. Diversity makes the viewer stay interested and surprised. Likewise, another fantastic artist, Kendall Buster, earned a BFA degree from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC. She has a lot of her work in many different venues. Sculpting does not interest me that much but I love looking at sculptures and I took a sculpture class in high school and really enjoyed it. What I love Busters work is the material she uses for her sculptures. It is so intriguing and really catches my eye. Overall, both of these artists inspired me to want to create a unique seat unlike any one else’s. I loved learning about these artists and viewing all their work.

Duality Essay

Although we have never met in person, I have imagined meeting Taylor Swift countless times. The “relationship” between Taylor Swift and I is abstract. No, we have not formally met yet, but I am almost certain that me touching her hand at her concert qualifies. I can remember the first time I ever heard a song by Taylor. Her endearingly kindhearted hit, “Our Song” had me at its first guitar strum. I was thirteen years old when that beautiful melody played in my head over and over again. I could never quite get it out. I have been listening to her music ever since that day. I guess you could simply say I am obsessed (in a non-strange way) with Taylor Swift. Her style, her confidence, her genuine personality, and of course her impeccable country music is what I love. Not only can I relate to her music, but her music can take me from being in a terrible mood to an eccentric one. Her whimsical music is beautiful to me and honestly, I do not think I will ever get sick of it.

To me, Taylor Swift is one of the most benevolent and compassionate people in this world. Everything about Taylor Swift shines. I reminisce on that first Swift concert that I ever went to. It was her headlining Fearless Tour at the Sprint Center. She is such a positive performer, full of energy, and full of consideration. She connects with each and every one of her fans so incredibly well. One of the most memorable moments in my life was at this particular concert where she walked through the audience, guitar on her shoulder, singing one of my favorite songs “Hey Stephen”. I remember this moment vividly. She grabbed my hand as she was gliding through the aisles. This moment is unforgettable, this moment is flawless. Even though this is my only real life “connection” I have acquired with Taylor, it is a great one.

Group Project: Contrast

For this particular project we got assigned into small groups and were given a word. My group’s word was contrast. We were to construct 3d letters that show scale, spacing, interaction and context to express the meaning of the word and then place the word in an environment.
